We’ve been trying to keep busy the last couple weekends by finding random things to see around Dhaka. Last weekend was the Military History Museum, right next to the Planetarium (also on our list of places to visit) and near the Chinese Bangladesh Convention Center. The Museum was nice, and entertaining in that many of the objects were mislabeled. There were old tanks and cars, and lots of weapons from WWII and later. M had a good time figuring out what the tanks and guns really were.
This week we finally made it out to the Zoo! The Zoo is way out in Mirpur, and according to our Lonely Planet it is open every day. We got there around 10:00 and it was not at all crowded, but it was starting to get busy by the time we left (around 11:30). The National Botanical Garden is right next door – something else to see! The Zoo was a pleasant surprise – pretty decent-sized cages for the animals, and nice paths to walk around the park. They had a wide range of animals, mostly from this region, and from what we could tell they seemed well-cared for.

For somewhere as 3rd world as Dhaka seems to be, that’s a rather nice zoo! I’m impressed.
That looks like one depressed lion. Hippo’s cute though.
